GoNerds — Parental Consent Notice (for Children & Minors)

1. Why you are reading this

If a child wants to use GoNerds, we need a parent's or guardian's permission first. This notice — written for parents, guardians, and teachers — explains, in plain language, what information GoNerds collects from children, how we use it, and the choices and rights you have. It works alongside our full Privacy Policy.

We provide this notice to meet the parental‑consent requirements of the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), Article 8 of the EU/UK GDPR, and Section 9 of India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act). Under the DPDP Act, anyone under 18 is treated as a child, so this notice applies to all minor learners, not only young children.

2. Who must give consent

  • Only an adult (18 or older) may create a GoNerds account.
  • By creating a profile for a learner under 18, you confirm you are that child's parent or legal guardian, or are otherwise authorised to consent to and supervise their use (for example, a teacher acting with the school's and parents' authorisation).
  • Children do not create their own accounts.

3. What we collect from children

We practise data minimisation and collect only what a child needs to learn and play:

  • Profile details you set up: a nickname, an avatar, an age band, and the learning track (e.g., Kids or K‑12). Please use a nickname rather than a full real name.
  • Learning activity: progress, scores, and in‑app feedback responses.
  • Limited technical data: device and app information, approximate (city/country‑level) location inferred from IP, and diagnostic logs, to keep the Service secure and working.

We do not knowingly collect more than this, and we do not ask children for unnecessary personal details.

4. What we do not do with children's data

  • We do not sell or rent a child's personal information.
  • We do not build advertising or behavioural profiles of children, and we do not track children across other apps or websites.
  • We do not show personalised/behavioural ads to children — only contextual, non‑personalised, age‑appropriate ads.
  • We do not make a child's profile public or share it with other users.
  • We do not use third‑party analytics or social‑media trackers in the app.

5. How we use children's data

Only to provide and improve the learning experience: to run the chosen learning track, save progress, respond to feedback, keep the Service safe, and serve non‑personalised ads. We do not use a child's data for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects.

6. Who we share it with

Only with service providers who help us run the Service under contract and on our instructions — for example AWS (hosting, in India), Google (only if you use "Sign in with Google"), and our advertising partner(s) (non‑personalised ads only) — and where required by law or to protect a child's safety. 7. How we obtain and verify your consent

When you create an account and a child's profile, we ask you to confirm that you are an adult (18+) and the child's parent/guardian or an authorised adult, and to agree to this notice and our Privacy Policy. We treat this as your verifiable parental consent to process that child's data as described here. At sign-up we require the account creator to confirm they are 18 or older and the parent/guardian (or an authorised adult) of each learner profile they create, we verify their email address, and they must actively agree ("I agree") to this notice and our Privacy Policy. Before enabling any feature that would collect additional personal data from a child, we apply a stronger age/parent-verification step consistent with COPPA and the DPDP Act.

We will obtain fresh consent if we make a material change to how we use a child's data.

8. Your rights and choices as a parent

At any time, you may:

  • Review the personal information we hold about your child;
  • Correct it;
  • Delete it (deleting the child's profile or the account removes it);
  • Refuse to permit further collection or use of your child's information; and
  • Withdraw your consent (this does not affect processing already carried out before withdrawal).

To exercise any of these, use the in‑app controls or email privacy@gonerds.in. We may ask you to verify your identity and your relationship to the child. Please note that withdrawing consent or deleting data may mean your child can no longer use some or all of the Service.

9. How to contact us

Your consent. By creating an account and a learner profile for a child, and by selecting "I agree," you confirm you are an adult authorised to consent for that child and you give your verifiable consent to GoNerds processing the child's personal data as described in this notice and our Privacy Policy. You can withdraw this consent at any time as described in Section 8.
